Can greencard holders do a federal clerkship

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Aug 16, 2021 3:27 pm

The rules appear to have some ambiguity, so I’m really just looking for a foreign national who can confirm that they completed a paid clerkship with a federal judge while being on a greencard.

In the contiguous US, you must be a citizen. But you can clerk in outlying territories, Alaska, or Hawaii, IIRC.

OP, you've probably seen this: https://oscar.uscourts.gov/citizenship_requirements . Not to explain to you what you've probably already read, but the big thing seems to be demonstrating intent to become a citizen. It looks like to get paid you need to either 1) have applied to adjust your status as soon as you were eligible, or 2) affirm that you're not yet eligible but that you will apply to adjust your status as soon as are eligible. I don't think that's especially ambiguous.
