Data point - top 5% at a lower T14, secondary journal EIC, applied to ~45 judges (mix of districts and CoAs), so far have 1 interview with a district judge who's an alum of my law school

At CLS know a bunch of people hearing nothing from NY judges even with great #s.
I have above a 3.8 at CLS and most of my classes were "real" black letters. Recommenders I know pretty well who made calls. Applied to lots of non-NY judges. Nothing. Really curious if this is happening to others.
Rough few days for CLS. First, we continue to woefully underperform at clerkships, and then the head of career services leaves for Fordham a month before EIP.
CLS grad. anon. had 4 interviews last cycle as a 2L. Nothing so far. I too am disappointed with the lack of institutional support.
Another grad here. OJC has been so bad, ranging from just not good advice to actively wrong information. The office is deliberately opaque and extremely unhelpful. They need a complete overhaul.
I was a transfer this year fortunate enough to pick up a very good recommender this year, but my grades are nothing special in general for CLS despite very good 1L-school grades. I was told to not apply to certain judges by OJC basically might piss off this recommender because my grades weren't good enough. Is this...normal?
This is terrible advice. There is literally no downside to applying for a position, other than using the OSCAR limit. OJC told me something similar and I ignored their advice. I got the clerkship they specifically advised against applying to.

Are we sure that judges haven’t decided to wait a bit after the plan opens? It’s oddly quiet, for me and everyone I know

For reference, 2020 MVP grad, top 15%, only looking at District Courts with a range of competitiveness. 20 apps, had profs call, nothing.
Many judges, particularly in competitive districts, are definitely moving now or are already full. For reference, at YLS, I'd say the majority of rising 3Ls who applied to clerkships have already been hired. And certainly, the vast majority (if not all) of our "most competitive" applicants have already completed their clerkship application cycle.

I’m sure there’s tons of movement in 2nd/SDNY/EDNY Bc of competitiveness but man Cls is down bad then - know like 10 people in top 10% just ghosted - rough

Top 15% at HLS with no interviews yet. Wild. Didn't see this coming.

Data point — white female rising 3L NYU/ Columbia 3.8— 0 interviews 30 apps
Similar case here. C/N 2021 top 5-10%, 40+ apps, 0 interviews. Last year, at maybe top 15%, I had 1 interview with 40+ apps.
A 3.8 is closer to top 15%, but in any case, also 3.8 at CLS/NYU, 50 apps, 0 interviews.
FWIW, at NYU, 3.8 should be top 5%. 3.72 was good for top 10% last year.

Other than a limited number of fedsoc hires that happen absurdly early (looking at you Judge Thapar), these are all on-plan hires over the past couple of days.

This is not at all the case at HLS. I know multiple top 10-15% students there who do not have offers and are still interviewing.

...I'm very, very skeptical that this isn't just selection effects of who you talked to and who people are talking about. At my school, a peer of YLS, our office said that most clerks were hired after June last year. And while it is true that the most selective judges hire very fast, most of my friends who went in the first week (including myself, and I had multiple feeder-ish offers) were not done in the first couple of days. Plenty of interviews scheduled on the first day won't have happened yet.

Different YLS anon. Practically all the on-plan judges you'd expect to move early have already moved and many are done.

Skeptical anon above. This sounds about right to me--most highly selective judges will have moved by now and some will be done. But most people who get clerkships, even at YLS, do not go to super-elite judges.

Currently working at a federal legal office and can confirm that all federal chambers are closed for Juneteenth so I wouldn't expect much movement today.

Well if you apply to 150 judges the odds are that if you get an offer it wont be from your favorite judge... But don't accept an interview invite from a judge you're not willing to work for.
