When to start applying for post-clerkship position?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon May 03, 2021 10:52 am

Hi all,

When do you start applying for post-clerkship positions if your clerkship ends at an abnormal time (like October 2021-2022, January 2021-2022, March 2021-2022, or May 2021-2022)?

Do you wait six months out and start applying? Everything on here appears to relate to a post-clerkship hiring timeline for clerkships that started in August/September.

With how post-clerkship hiring is going this year, and with firms' extreme focus on filling transactional/corporate jobs, I would recommend searching immediately after your start (assuming your judge allows that).

March 2021-2022: applying in January 2021 may be too late. Maybe apply in June 2020.

Interested, but don’t understand this. Is it an attempted joke, typos, or genuine??

I'm also curious. I've seen everything from "apply right after you start" to "no earlier than March." Some firms state when clerks should apply on their NALP pages, but I'm not sure how much that really reflects hiring approaches...

January 2021-2022: apply in January 2021, noting January 2022 start date.
March 2021-2022: applying in January 2022 may be too late. Maybe apply in June 2021.
