What is Walker's reputation so far? Is he on track to become a consistent feeder? How hard is it to get him compared to say, someone like Rao?

I can't tell you whether he will be a consistent feeder, but I get the impression that Rao is more difficult to land.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 11:39 pmWhat is Walker's reputation so far? What are the differences between Katsas, Rao, and Walker? Are they looking for the same person?

Katsas is one of the three premier feeders in the country. Rao is right below that level. Walker is meh.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 12:42 amWhat are the differences between Katsas, Rao, and Walker? Are they looking for the same person?
I could see Katsas and Rao hiring the same person. But not Walker.

Re: Let’s Talk DC Circuit!
Walker is always getting going to get good candidates by virtue of sitting on the DC Circuit, but he's not trying to be a feeder in any real sense. He maintains chambers in his own office in Kentucky and runs a fully remote clerkship.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 12:46 amKatsas is one of the three premier feeders in the country. All three of Katsas, Rao, and Walker look for broadly similar people though: very conservative with incredible grades and usually prior clerkships.

Re: Let’s Talk DC Circuit!
The level of competition for clerkships with the three Trump appointees correlates with the order in which they were appointed. Katsas is the most competitive, Walker is the least competitive, Rao is somewhere in the middle. I'm not sure if Rao's competitiveness is closer to Katsas or Walker, but I'd guess Katsas; Rao is at least much more interested in fancy paper credentials than Walker, who more regularly hires from lower-ranked schools and says he thinks students shouldn't have to go to the Harvards and Yales of the world to get good clerkships.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 11:45 pmI can't tell you whether he will be a consistent feeder, but I get the impression that Rao is more difficult to land.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 11:39 pmWhat is Walker's reputation so far? Will Childs have chambers in South Carolina or DC? If South Carolina, are her clerks expected to live there?

DC unless she's planning on a very unconventional remote-work setup. D.C. Circuit judges have always moved full-time to DC.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 10:12 amWill Childs have chambers in South Carolina or DC? If South Carolina, are her clerks expected to live there?

Yikes, I stand corrected then. Unconventional by Walker. I guess Childs could go either way.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 12:14 pmNot Justin Walker.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 11:34 amDC unless she's planning on a very unconventional remote-work setup. Does Henderson work remote or allow her clerks to do so?

That's a COVID-era development then. Henderson is from South Carolina but that clerkship always had been in DC.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Sep 29, 2022 9:35 amNot Henderson either.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 1:27 pmYikes, I stand corrected then. I’ve heard that Walker clerks can choose to work from Kentucky or DC but that Walker himself generally works from KentuckyAnonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 1:27 pmYikes, I stand corrected then. Not sure if this is the right thread, but I haven't seen any for the District Court. Any information on how particular judges (especially Cooper, Howell, Friedrich) run their chambers, and if they hire outside of HYSC?

Dabney has hired heavily from my HYS but I dunno if that is a necessary conditionAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 7:04 pmNot sure if this is the right thread, but I haven't seen any for the District Court. Does anyone have insights on Childs's process and terms that she might be looking for?

I know that she has conducted some interviews for the 2023-24 term. Don't know if she has looked beyond that term or even made offers for that term yet, though.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 5:01 pmDoes anyone have insights on Childs's process and terms that she might be looking for?

I see that certain D.C. circuit judges have "available" positions on OSCAR, e.g., Ginsburg and Henderson. Does anyone know if they're actually hiring?

Where do D.C. Circuit / DDC clerks usually live, and how far in advance should a future clerk be looking? Advice for family-friendly locations would be particularly appreciated.

Re: Let’s Talk DC Circuit!
They live all over the place, because DC is fairly small and easy to get around for the most part. Most of my fellow clerks lived in DC, but Virginia and Maryland are also pretty common, especially if you want more space. My recommendation is to live anywhere on the Red Line, as it makes getting to chambers much easier if you don't drive or bike to work. I found the Van Ness pretty good for families, but others may have opinions.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 3:57 pmWhere do D.C.
