I am getting ready to send out some mail-in applications. (At least one judge said that she required a paper application.) Like most law students, I am virtual and not near my profs. Is it reasonable to just ask them to ship out various LORs? I don't think it would be appropriate to just send in the LORs myself. Thank you.

If they’re profs, it’s probably part of their assistant’s job to send out paper letters, so I’d just ask them how they handle it. (My school had a whole system for submitting lists in formats ready to mail merge.) it’s much tougher if you have a non-prof recommender who doesn’t have a system in place or a school paying the postage.

Ask your recommender directly to write the letter, but go through your school's clerkship/career services office to actually mail them out. Typically the clerkship office will contact the recommenders, collect the letters, and mail them out to whichever chambers you indicate you are applying to.
