The ripple effects of displaced Katzmann clerks are already being felt
I assume Livingston, Rakoff, Oetken, Lohier??, or one of the moderate Fed Soc Actives picks them up. I don't think they affect non-feeders really.
Katzmann hired way into the future so I'd expect many would go to colleagues who haven't hired yet for the terms he had. E.g. Barron doesn't hire ridiculously far in advance. No inside info though.

Pillard has hired multiple would-be Katzmann clerks and is done hiring this year.

Anyone hear about the elite-level district court judges today? So I am talking:
- Pretty much anyone on D.D.C. (Friederich, Boasberg, Moss, Howell, etc.)
- S.D.N.Y. (Rakoff, Furman, etc.)
- N.D.C.A. - Chhabria? Breyer?
- E.D.V.A.- Brinkema? Ellis?
- Feinerman?

And according to another thread Bacharach has finished hiring for 23-24 as well

Does anyone have any good coping mechanisms for how to deal with rejection after interviewing? The interview request itself got my hopes up too high I think.

I recommend something healthy, like exercise, a good book or video game, or hanging out with friends. In the short term, venting about your frustrations and disappointment is also good.

More fundamentally, don’t worry too much about it. Clerkships are extremely competitive, and the fact that you got an interview is extremely impressive. Plus, if you got one, chances may be that you can get another one. And if you don’t, there’s always next cycle. And then the one after.

On that note, give yourself a pat on the back, OP. Not only did you chase after a goal that, as your post suggests, you really wanted, but you also got an interview and did your best. That should be something to be proud of. Now you can take all that you’ve learned from this one and apply it to the next, and ace that interview.

Disclaimer: im about a month and a half into the waiting period after my interview. At this point, im accepting that I didn’t get the offer. So I’ve been telling myself all of the above to stay positive.

This was extremely helpful to hear and I really appreciate the kind words. I'm sorry that you've had to wait to hear anything for that long (I would go crazy), and I am wishing you the best of luck! This process is truly soul sucking.

I second all that was said above. When I told people I got an interview, they congratulated me which felt so premature but then again it is impressive to even get an interview. Several months ago, I interviewed with a judge and felt fairly confident I would get it based on my interview. A few days later, I was told that the judge didn't select me. I was disappointed and didn't have any other interviews and figured I'd apply to more in the future. Then a few months later, the judge reached back out because they had a clerk pull out for a different term than the one I interviewed for and they asked if I wanted to be considered. I had already accepted a position for that year and let the judge know that I'd like to be considered for future terms and then the judge offered me a clerkship the next day for a later term. Not saying this happens often, but all that to say that if you don't get a clerkship you interview for, you just never know what could happen.

For those discussing CLS professors earlier in the thread, thank you, that was very informative. I am a rising 3L and am considering applying, but candidly am not a strong candidate. Was not Stone 1L (straight B+s) and only made Stone for 2L (overall GPA ~3.56). Is it worth still reaching out to one of the professors listed above (e.g., one of Richman, Greene, Waxman) if I got only A-s in their classes? If I were to apply, I would be very flexible with year/geography. Just not sure if it is worth putting in the work if I would be shut out anyway.

Yes. I know people at CLS who were in the exact same position as you 1L (and a similar position 2L) who got very solid clerkships. Even if you may not be the best candidate right now, another year on the 2/3L curve should really help you. In your position, professor recs are pretty important, so I would 100% reach out. There is literally zero downside to reaching out and seeing what they have to say.

Agree with the above. I think all three of them would be candid with you about your odds, where you would be competitive, etc. There is no downside to talking to them; after that conversation you will have enough information to decide about applying.

This is also off-market advice, but the one thing our clerkship dean seems to be good at is finding positions for "marginal" clerkship candidates. She is (allegedly) well connected with NY CoA / NJ & CT equivalents, has made a point of getting to know magistrate judges, etc. Whether you want those is a different question that she won't help with because she aggressively pushes everyone who comes to her to a clerkship.

Re: "being flexible with year and geography," think hard about what a clerkship will actually do for you and how it will fit in your life. It's not life-or-death to have one.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
