Ethics Q about applications

Hey all, what's the consensus on applying to firms who have cases in front of your judge (esp ones you're assigned to)? I feel like this has to have come up before, but I couldn't find any threads. Do you have to hand the case off to another clerk? Does it depend on the judge?

Thanks in advance

Different judges might have different practices, but in my experience it's not an issue at the application stage. If you accepted an offer the calculus would likely change, though.

I think the judicial ethics handbook thing addresses this, and I thought I remembered that you can apply, but if you get to the interview stage you have to remove yourself from the case. But the short and always correct answer is, ask your judge (they may have more stringent requirements).

Depends on the Judge, but I know of some judges who have clerks recuse from any case involving a firm/organization they have applied to (so check with your judge before sending out applications, etc).
