Top Law Schools

Stats are top 20% at MVP. Law review and managing board of a secondary journal. I also have a note being published with a secondary journal at a T-14. I've applied to almost 100 district court clerkships, and a couple non-feeder type COA clerkships. My recommendations are probably alright, but nothing stellar. Chance me please!

I’d say pretty low for COA, and also pretty low for district court.

I mean, nothing really stands out -- you have good-but-not-great grades, go to a good-but-not-great school (for a clerkship applicant), and have good-but-not-great recs?

If the district courts you blanketed are like, SDNY, DDC, and NDCal, sorta hard to see you getting picked out of the pile without professors making calls on your behalf. But if you applied to less competitive districts, sure maybe?

You are competitive for most districts and should get a few interviews if you apply broadly. The biggest thing will be having an interest on the resume that clicks with a judge and gets your application pulled from the pile. If COA is your goal, getting a year or two of experience, particularly at the district court level, would seem like the realistic route as you are currently only borderline competitive for COA.

With similar-ish stats applying last cycle (same school range, LR non-board, grades in the same ballpark but a bit lower, note not published) I was able to get bites in S/EDNY from recommender calls and bites in less competitive but still major markets (other Acela corridor cities) without calls being made. So you have a shot at something good at the district level.

I did not get any bites for COA, but also did not concentrate my recommender resources on those judges before locking down the district court. So make of that what you will.
