Nevada Supreme Court

Has anyone heard back from the Nevada Supreme Court for 2020-2021 or for 2021-2022?

Interested in NV Supreme Court myself - if any current clerks or applicants are interested in sharing their thoughts, I would appreciate hearing from you.

I clerked for the NV Supreme Court a few years ago and would be happy to answer any questions. It was a great experience.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Approximately how long after applications opened (April 1) did you receive an interview request and what did that interview entail? I recognize each justice may be different, but I'm a little worried about being grilled on NV state law during my interview (see below, which I received via email after applying):

"The examination process may include one or more of the following: application review and evaluation, performance test, written test, and/or oral interview examination."

In general, what is the best way to prepare for an interview?

What was your work schedule like?

Finally, were there any justices that you particularly enjoyed speaking with or who had a good reputation amongst the clerks?

The interview was about a month after applications closed. Every justice is on a different timeline though. I interviewed with two justices.

You will not be grilled on Nevada law at all. You might have to take a test that's like a pt from a bar exam. One justice required it and one didn't. This test is not something you need to study or prepare for. It provides you with all the documents you need and then you write a brief based on the information provided.

I would work the occasional weekend, but for the most part, it's a 40 hour a week job. I am a very fast worker though.

Be ready to talk about yourself and tell your story. Both of my interviews were very casual.

Anon here from above. Be advised that some Justices REALLY care about your ties to NV. When I clerked a few years ago, over half of the clerks were from UNLV. I don't know if this is self-selection (the best UNLV grads naturally shoot for their own state's top court), or just the Justices' preference. Be prepared to have reasons why you are connected to NV or want to live/work there, just in case.

Hardesty already hired for 2022, and Silver is doing interviews next week.

Hi all,

I am an out of state applicant. Do you suppose they will be okay with a virtual interview if selected? Or will it be held against me?

I have direct knowledge that (Silver, Cadish, Herndon) hold virtual interviews and have hired on that basis in the past. Silver will interview in-person in Las Vegas, unsure of the other two (who are stationed in Carson City, but travel back and forth).

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, do you know if anyone has been selected for interviews yet?

Some justices move extremely early. For 2023-2024, at least two justices have hired one clerk. I am not sure that anybody has filled up yet.

Other justices (especially Justice Silver in Las Vegas) are still hiring for 2022-23.

I’d say shoot your shot for whomever you have interest

If I may, do you know whether the Court of Appeals has begun sending out interview requests for the 2023-24 term?
