SCOTUS Shortlist

Is a clerkship with a judge who was on the SCOTUS shortlist generally considered more prestigious? If so, why? My understanding is that shortlisted judges are very well connected, but does that actually affect the prestige/competitiveness of the clerkship (especially in the eyes of future employers)? Finally, would a shortlisted non-feeder judge from a non-2/9/DC be harder to get/more prestigious than a non-feeder judge from 2/9/DC? Any other thoughts on shortlist judges are, obviously, welcome :).

Probably depends on who wrote the shortlist.

Yes, all the shortlisted judges are going to be well known/connected. But overall I think you’re parsing prestige/selectivity too finely. “Shortlisted” isn’t a particularly meaningful category in itself; it’s the qualities that got someone shortlisted that matter. (And all COA judges are competitive.)
