So, what are the chances of landing a Big Law job after one of these? Does anyone have experience either first hand or anecdotally about opportunities for volunteer judicial clerks? I have a volunteer clerkship that lasts a little less than a year, and I just want to know what people's experiences have been getting a job after.

What's a volunteer pro bono clerkship? If it's the same as a regular, AIII clerkship, but you don't get paid, then yes, you probably have a very good shot at biglaw after. Most people who get AIII clerkships also had biglaw credentials. If it's something else, like a clerkship with an ALJ, and you didn't have biglaw credentials to begin with, it's probably not going to move the needle much.

Anecdotal evidence: A few SDNY judges take volunteer clerks. Often those clerks couldn't otherwise be paid (e.g., Canadian citizens) or have special circumstances (e.g., time between fellowships; was clerking for another judge who retired/passed away). Those clerks generally have credentials comparable to paid SDNY term clerks, are treated the same and do the same work as term clerks, and are generally successful at getting big law jobs.
Obviously, YMMV based on your credentials going in, where the clerkship is, etc.
