What are my chances? District Ct. Clerkship

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Mar 26, 2017 9:58 am

Hey all, looking for some insight about my chances to land a District Ct clerkship for the 2018 term.

Here is the basic run-down: I'm a 2L transfer at a top 30. Top 5% as a 1L at a Tier 2; top 10% at my new school. No LR as a transfer (hopefully, I'll write on and join as senior editor 3L year for the resume bullet); Moot Court (hopefully board/president position in a couple weeks); secondary journal (missed out on EIC/contemplating other board position?), and externship experience with multiple different judges (St. SC, Fed Dct, and COA). No work experience at big law. 2 solid LOR, 3rd is decent.

By no means a guarantee, but probably worth it to put a few apps out if you're geographically flexible and can identify some judges who might be less school sensitive. Note, though, that a decent number of judges have probably already hired or at least begun interviewing for 2018.

(Also, is there any way to get a better-than-decent third LOR? You need all the help you can get.)
