Currently in a Circuit Court clerkship in Maryland with possible relocation to GA. A change of circumstances has made me seriously look at moving, but no definite plans yet, so I haven't taken the GA bar exam or anything. Just wondering if anybody could shed light on the clerkship application process in GA, timelines, etc. I'm almost certain that, like in MD, it pretty much depends on the judge... but just looking for any information/advice out there. The reason why clerking is so attractive is it would be a short-term job that would allow me to still have income while I study for a take/hopefully bas the GA bar. My job search has yielded very few results that indicate that the applicant must be "willing to take the next bar" as opposed to "must be barred."

Both the federal and state systems in Georgia don't do a lot in the way of clerkships. I believe neither the GA ct of appeals nor state supreme court takes term clerks. Some of the trial courts (mostly superior) take term clerks but you're right that the application process varies by judge.

Most of the federal d. ct. judges in GA (NDGA) do not hire clerks as they have career clerks. A handful of d. ct. judges take term clerks; hiring is usually 1-2 years out and there is a strong preference for local schools (UGA/Emory) or T14s with ties to Atl. the 11th cir. judges in Atl take term clerks and move a little slower than most other circuits, but still, they're probably already hired through 2017 and some through 2018.
