clerkship, PI fellowship, then firm (w/ bonus?)

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has faced, or explored, the following situation: I'll be finishing a clerkship this coming year and am considering doing a one-year public interest fellowship for the year after the clerkship. If I did that and then wanted to join a biglaw firm after the fellowship year, would I still be eligible for the clerkship bonus? I guess I'm just trying to figure out whether pursuing a one-year public interest fellowship would effectively cause me to forgo the clerkship bonus.

If anyone has any experience or knowledge as to this, I'd much appreciate it. Thank you!

Yes, you would be eligible for the clerkship bonus. Most firms have policies where you can receive a clerkship bonus at any time so long as you haven't received one before.

Whether or not you get class credit for the fellowship would be more case by case

Currently contemplating a similar path—district court clerkship, PI fellowship, COA clerkship, and then possibly a firm.

Wondering if it’s still the case that firms would still pay a bonus/be interested in hiring someone with a PI job on their resume.
