Timing of bar exam #2

I'm barred in State X, in the middle of clerkship 1/2, and thinking ahead to fall of 2017. I have an offer at the firm where I SAd in State X, but I'm thinking about exploring options in neighboring State Y (which has a more robust biglaw market).

Should I sit for the State Y bar this summer? (The timing is kind of awkward given our chambers calendar.) Is it necessary for me to be barred in State Y in order to apply competively at biglaw firms in State Y? Or could I wait and sit for the State Y bar in February '17? I'd rather wait unless it would significantly diminish my prospects.

Thoughts?

It honestly depends on the market. I've exploring my options at two large cities in the south for when my clerkship term ends in August (D. Ct.). I've been told by recruiters in city A that firms would not seriously entertain my application unless I am barred in that state. (Hence why I'm taking that bar next week.) Whereas recruiters in city B have told me that firms would gladly entertain my application as long as I have committed to take the exam for that state in July.
