When to follow up with the clerk in charge of hiring?

I accepted a District Court clerk position the very beginning of August to begin in August of 2016. The Judge said that someone would be in contact with me about doing a background check, paperwork, etc. I have not heard anything since then. Should I give it a few more months or send an e-mail asking if there is anything I need to do?

You won't hear anything until a few weeks before you start, unless you need to work out a start date, and that will be whenever the clerk you're replacing wants to get their schedule in order (so maybe not till April or May? but maybe earlier). If you need something from them (like an offer letter to prove your salary for an apartment), feel free to contact them when you need that.
They're not going to forget about you; there isn't anything to worry about.
