Anyone have advice or experience with finding work for a year before starting a D. Ct. clerkship? I am not sure how to mention this to firms when applying/interviewing.

I worked for a solo for about 6 months before my clerkship. Was referred in by a friend. I replaced an associate who left on short notice (the solo needed help ASAP).

If you're looking for bigger firms, you should tap your connections and mass mail. Hopefully someone wants some help.

I would just be straight up about your situation. Be flexible about pay and the kind of work you'll be doing. A lot of what I did this summer was pretty basic stuff but I made a nice chunk of change and got a good resume line, so it was worth it.

Thanks for the response. I have been applying to job postings only so far. I emailed firms I interviewed at about the clerkship when I received it, but I haven't heard anything back yet. Should I indicate the clerkship in a cover letter when mass mailing or wait until I interview?

Definitely put it in the cover letter

OP, if you're still around: I'm in the same situation. How did this work out? Thank you!
