I've been invited to a first-round interview for a clerkship at the Los Angeles Superior Court. My understanding is that if after the interview I'm deemed eligible, I'll be placed on a list and might later be contacted for an interview for an opening.

Has anyone been through this process or have any idea how this process plays out?

I'm wondering what the time-frame is for obtaining secondary interviews and/or a placement. I'm also wondering whether interviews must all be conducted in person, like the initial interview, or if secondary interviews can be done remotely. Thanks.

I do not know anything about LA judicial clerkships, but I do know that a remote interview requires exceptional circumstances. For example, are you presently employed as a federal law clerk in a remote location ( outside of the lower 48 states) ? If so, then a remote interview is understandable. Otherwise, without exceptional circumstances or a relative named Bush, Kennedy or Clinton, then you should show up in person.

OP here. I will be at a temporary job in Europe, so flying to LA for interviews will be difficult financially. I've had 3 federal clerkship interviews this summer and all were done via video conference (at the judge's request, not mine). I realize some judges prefer it be in person, and I personally would not request a video interview absent this circumstance.

That qualifies. Maybe "remote" was a poor word choice. Something between remote & inconvenient should work. Although, and I am just speculating, the judge may be willing to interview you at your location.
