Thank you email post-interview?

I have an interview with a U.S. District Judge coming up. The email was scheduled through direct email communications with the Judge. Would it be ok to send my "thank you" post interview by email to the Judge? Or should I drop a thank you card/note in a mailbox outside when I leave the interview (so it will get there quickly)?

I recommend the handwritten card because it adds a personal touch. Additionally, if you interview with the Judge's clerks, in addition to the Judge, you can address it to everyone you met.

Yes.

What does this mean? Like you'd write the handwritten card before interviewing? If so, that's dumb. It would just be a generic thank you with no tailoring to any really good conversation you and the judge may have had.

Dont write it beforehand but definitely have the card and stamped envelope, after interview write it and drop it in first mailbox you see.
