8th Circuit

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Feb 27, 2015 7:11 am

Didn't see a thread for it after I scrolled through a few pages, so I'm starting one. Any news on who is already 2016 full. I know gruender and Murphy.

News on Benton or Kelly?

Any other news on movement? I'm targeting the 8th Circuit due to local ties but I haven't heard much. I know Benton and Loken are full. Anyone know anything else?

Murphy has been full too for a while. So has Gruender. Others seem to be moving slowly, unless I havent heard developments.

Crazy that Melloy doesnt want either UG grades or any writing sample. Guess he's 100% grades or bust?

Also, I don't like when judges only require two recommendations. I like all three of mine, and I can never decide whether submitting all of them will look like I can't follow directions.

I basically do 3 recs nonetheless. Most mean at least x recs, and they can always ignore one. Plus I haven't seen my actual letters, so I don't know which two are the best.

Kelly is interviewing but I don't know if she has made any offers yet.

I've heard from a good source that Riley will be interviewing later this month.

FWIW, last year Wollman did not use OSCAR. Hard copy to his chambers.

Smith has been interviewing since at least early April, but I don't know what his timeline is at all.

Any idea how many people he's been interviewing? Or do you know what his traditional interview practices are (does he traditionally interview a bunch of people or interview over a long period of time)?

I honestly have no idea. I interviewed early April, and he said he would be in interview mode for a while before making decisions. When did you interview?

A few weeks ago (mid-April). He kind of seemed like he was winding it down, but I know nothing about how long he normally interviews or anything. I just know that he doesn't make any decisions until after he's interviewed everyone he's set up interviews with. But, I'm not sure how many people he normally interviews. He said he would be making calls within a couple of weeks.

As in he said he'd be making calls a couple weeks from mid-April, or a couple weeks from now? I kind of want to send an email to his chambers and ask, but I probably won't.

I'm just really anxious because he's my last shot at a COA right out of law school at this point. I was weirded out by the fact that both of his term clerks are alums, which is unusual for him. Are you a 2L or an alum, if you don't mind my asking?
