Hey All,

What are my chances at landing a Federal Clerkship with a 3.5 from Georgetown. FWIW, I received an A- in Federal Courts and have a glowing recommendation from my Federal Courts professor. Also, what are my chances at landing a NY Court of Appeals clerkship? I should mention I did not summer at a big law firm nor do I have a big law job lined up post graduation.

If you apply extremely broadly to district court judges nationwide, maybe 20-25%? That GPA probably puts you just outside the top third. Where are you from, where did you go to college, where does your family live? Apply to those places and to judges that have hired Georgetown clerks in the past (use Symplicity).

I had the same GPA from GW and got a non-flyover district judge clerkship, BUT I didn't apply until I had a couple years' experience at biglaw. If you want a district judge, it can really help to get some experience first. A lot of district judges prefer alumni now.

This. I had similar stats to OP and landed a top district court clerkship a few years out. (I did, however, have BigLaw and good recs from non-prof employers.)

I had interviews in some non-flyover districts with similar grades. Go for it.
