hey guys

I was just looking for some language to use when describing the fed clerkship on the res. as I am sure many of you do, I do both bench memos and opinions for social security, criminal, and civil. any ideas? what do you use for your resume description? note also that the rest of my res is in bullet (as opposed to paragraph) form

My resume says:

"United States District Court for the District of XXX (2013-present)
Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable XXX."

Nothing else. Employers know what clerks do in general and also know that chambers/judges/clerks vary tremendously.

Definitely this.

I was always under the impression that, under the title/position, resumes typically describe job responsibilities to some degree. is this not the case?

Indians will understand english, come on.

You can put something really generic like "Researched and assisted drafting orders in civil and criminal cases", but I agree that description isn't really necessary. Legal employers should all know what a judicial law clerk does, and if they really don't have a clue, the resume description still probably won't mean anything to them. If there's anything really specific/unique, like "co-authored textbook chapter with judge" or "served on district Jury Instructions committee" you could add that. But otherwise it really isn't necessary.

took me way too long to get this.

I have listed three things under the title in this format:1) drafted a, b, c (opinions, memos, orders etc), 2) assisted the judge with d, e, f types of hearings, and 3) managed xyz

This link has a good list of tasks and job descriptions of a law clerk that you can put on your resume. I used a combination of these tasks and listed the types of cases I worked on (i.e. patent, constitutional law, securities, etc).
