(Good) Dilemma

Sorry if already answered elsewhere in the forum - I tried the search function but didn't initially find anything, and this could just be common sense. If a clerkship offer is extended after formally accepting a full-time offer, how does one go about this? Will accepting a clerkship constitute officially reneging on the full-time offer? Or are firms generally supportive of clerkships no matter when they are notified of them?

I suspect it may depend some on practice area. A friend at my firm got a clerkship, and our firm gave him a very chilly response. But, he wasn't in a practice that it was relevant to.

Totally fine, totally common. They will very likely understand and be supportive. Unless you are talking about some small shop that really needed you to start next year.
