Does anyone know what the medical insurance is like for federal clerkships? Also, I've heard that there is a delay before the insurance kicks in. Can anyone confirm this, and if so, how long is the delay?

Delay is till the beginning of your first full pay period. You get tons of options and many (most?) are quite good.
