State Supreme Court Clerkship to D. Ct. - When to apply?

Secured a clerkship with a state supreme court in a non-flyover state for the 2014-2015 term. If I am interested in seeking a district court clerkship after my term with the state supreme court, when do you suggest that I start applying? Now (before I begin)? Once I begin? Thanks in advance.

Now, especially if you're looking at competitive districts (some of which are already filling up/full for 2015). Put the SSC clerkship on your resume though. After you start your clerkship, if you get any district interviews you can always see if your judge will place a call on your behalf (if he does that sort of thing, not all do). But it's more important that you get the apps out as quick as possible, because it's like the Wild West now that the hiring plan is dead.

Also, congrats.

Congrats. Many of the more competitive districts are nearly filled or are filling as we speak for 2015. As stated, I would get your apps out ASAP. Don't wait around for OSCAR postings--though apply if they are up, and I recommend calling all chambers in districts you are interested in. You can get through an entire large district in just an hour, and you'll know exactly what each judge's hiring situation is. Or you can just blindly mail.
