If you are trading-up or going to another firm (or know of someone else doing the same), could you please post the name and location of the firm you are NOT joining? I figure that might be a good firm to apply to.

How on Earth is this going to be a metric that saves you any time at all? Just because someone's not joining a firm doesn't mean that firm may have more space than the firm they are joining.

This is for people who will be leaving their clerkship in the fall of 2014. There have been people on here that have already accepted job offers at new firms, even though they had offers at the firms they summered at.

I would think that if a firm was expecting a law clerk to start working in Fall 2014, and that law clerk decided to go to a different firm, there would be an opening to replace that associate.

There probably will be but just focus on networking and applying. This approach worries me because I think the odds of taking any one specific person's job aren't really better than massmailing.

I definitely agree that networking is the best option, but this would just be a supplemental approach to the job search. I think timing is important, especially if a firm has a last-minute opening that it doesn't want to waste time trying to fill. While this might not be the case for the more prestigious big firms out there, some of the smaller firms might face this issue.
