Background: I interviewed with a Federal Court of Appeals judge about a month ago. She still has not given me a decision (although, obviously, I am pretty certain I am not getting the clerkship since it has been so long). In the meantime, a state Supreme Court Justice just invited me to interview with him in a couple of weeks.

What should I do here? Specifically, should I let the Federal judge know that I have an interview with the state Supreme Court Justice? And if so, should I email her assistant or call her assistant?

I would call. And to put it slightly more diplomatically, you can always say that you have an interview with another judge but you're still interested in this position and were wondering if there was a timeline for when [interview judge] would be making a decision. You're likely to get a similar response (haven't decided, good luck), but if they have decided but haven't told you, at least you'll know.

(Normally, it would probably be more kosher to call after getting an offer from the second judge, but the chance of needing to respond on the spot makes that tougher.)
