She had been soliciting applications for 2021-22 since last year. She is super slow with hiring though.

Judge Bacharach has made at least one offer and has sent rejection letters to [at least some] people he has interviewed. I doubt he's still interviewing.

There was also some back and forth in Best and Worst Judges to Clerk For, IIRC.desiperc wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 3:13 pmHonestly, search for Holmes in this thread and you'll understand the advice.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 2:55 pmCare to elaborate?

Re: Let's Talk 10th Circuit!
I recently clerked for Jerome Holmes. It was a truly horrible experience, one all of the clerks in my class uniformly disliked (privately, of course). From what I remember, the hours were long and there was an almost unbelievable lack of mentorship. We worked pretty tirelessly until the very end and he didn't treat us well at all.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 2:55 pmCare to elaborate?
In my opinion, this is the rare "no clerkship is better than clerking for this judge" recommendation. I say that and fully admit the broader stamp helped me land the job I wanted; I'd still not do it again and just get another job off a district court.
Bottom line, just about any other Judge on the circuit would provide a better experience (Matheson clerks may disagree). Again, just my opinion, but steer clear.

You should remove the identifying pronouns from this post - it narrows down who your friend is significantly.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 5:19 pmI recently clerked for Jerome Holmes. My co-clerks and I had a different experience - I think we all enjoyed the year overall - but I don't have any reason to doubt anyone else's account either.

10/10, that’s basically what I was going to advise. Lists of current clerks are accessible to those with the right subscriptions. Anon does his friend — and his friend’s colleagues — a great disservice by effectively outing them.

My law school's clerkship office blacklisted Holmes based on fairly serious abuse of two previous alumni clerks. Not discrimination, sexual assault, etc. like Kozinski, but unusually/unacceptably demeaning.

Anyone able to back this up re: Matheson? I've heard that his hours are long and that he can be gruff, but I've never heard anyone complain that he's borderline abusive.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 5:19 pmBottom line, just about any other Judge on the circuit would provide a better experience (Matheson clerks may disagree).

Is Seymour still hiring clerks? If so, is she on or off plan?

The former Matheson clerk I know seems to have liked the experience, but they are somewhat tight-lipped about the experience. They said they worked long hours, but kind of took pride in that and felt as though they were getting substantive experience.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 9:49 pmAnyone able to back this up re: Matheson? Re: Let's Talk 10th Circuit!
Previous posters are right that McHugh is a hard worker, and her clerks might work a bit more than average, but nothing insane or unreasonable. She expects a lot, but you can definitely have a life outside work. She's well respected as a smart and incredibly conscientious judge. She's consistently one of the most prepared judges at oral argument and she likes to be very thorough in all her cases, which means her clerks do a lot in terms of digging through the record, doing research (esp. when the briefing's bad), going through a fair number of draft opinions, etc. More importantly though, she's a wonderful boss. She's amazingly thoughtful, very accessible, tries to get to know her clerks and develop relationships with them, and she's a great mentor.

Any word on whether she has started looking at '22-23 applications yet?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 9:53 pmPrevious posters are right that McHugh is a hard worker, and her clerks might work a bit more than average, but nothing insane or unreasonable. Any word on Hartz for 2022-23? His OSCAR says that he is beginning interviews immediately.

Re: Let's Talk 10th Circuit!
Seems like a good guy. Friendly to our chambers in a way that strikes me as genuine and he has a good reputation on the court. Fairly conservative, but not totally doctrinaire. Can't speak to hours or mentorship or anything internal to his chambers, but from the outside he seems like a pretty good judge to clerk for.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 12:37 pmAny insights into what it's like to work for Carson?
