What Exactly Does a Year Mean?

So my gf is currently working for a federal clerkship and will finish late August/early September. After that she's working at a firm, which is having her start September 15th. Her judge is giving her the option to end either the week before Labor Day or the week after. She would prefer the week before so that she can breathe a little between the two jobs. However, if she takes the earlier option, she technically will not have worked for her judge for a year (off by days but I don't think more than a week). Obviously, she wants her clerkship bonus which is contingent upon her clerking for a "year." She is planning on speaking wither her firm about what exactly a "year" means. Have other people had experience with a situation like this? Typically, how strict of a definition do firms attribute to the word "year" when it comes to bonuses?
Thanks in advance TLS.

call me crazy but i suspect that if she's a day short of 365 days they're not going to refuse to pay her the large clerkship bonus that they're hoping will convince her to join their firm.

I was of the same line of thinking. But she was just trying to make sure.

Can't she ask her firm to be sure? They're likely the only ones who can really answer this Q.

Yeah she will, basically I thought that even worrying about it was unnecessary and just wanted some TLS support. The odds are in her favor.
