I have a 2/9/DC non-feeder clerkship in 2015. I'm graduating this year and will be going to my firm for a year before clerking (it's a very well-regarded firm with a good record of placing alums into federal government positions). 2 questions: If I want to be an AUSA or get a comparably competitive federal government position will doing a district court clerkship in 2016 help? Or is a 2/9/DC clerkship enough? If I do apply for another clerkship (before the 2015 clerkship starts), how should I refer to my 2015 clerkship in my application materials? Put it on my resume? Mention it in my cover letter? Something else?

Can't answer the first question, although I would think it would certainly help to be able to weave the trial-level experience you'd get at a district court into the interview process (the question, of course, is whether it outweighs the opportunity cost).

As someone who will be going COA to District, yes, you should put the forthcoming clerkship on your resume and mention in your cover letter. At least, that worked for me.
