Anybody know anything about Judge Julio Fuentes? There are only a few posts about him here and my law school clerkship office has nada.

Not interviewing people at the moment. Not sure when he'll start doing so again.

On substance (not re interview timetable), I hear from multiple friends and/or coworkers and/or co-clerks who’ve clerked first him that working for him is a great experience (notwithstanding Newark, which is not great although the people I know commuted from MFH). Won’t get into specifics, but not a judge I would avoid.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 5:07 pmNot interviewing people at the moment. Not sure when he'll start doing so again.
Apparently the courthouse he sits in has multiple judges also sitting therein, and the place’s pretty collegial/social too

Listing for 2021 went up late last week so there could be some movement there soon.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 5:07 pmNot interviewing people at the moment. Not sure when he'll start doing so again.

Newark sucks, but you can just live in Manhattan and take the PATH. It's an easy commute.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 5:21 pmOn substance (not re interview timetable), I hear from multiple friends and/or coworkers and/or co-clerks who’ve clerked first him that working for him is a great experience (notwithstanding Newark, which is not great although the people I know commuted from MFH). His chambers has told my school's clerkship office that he is accepting apps but doesn't plan on interviewing until he can do it in person.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 7:57 pmListing for 2021 went up late last week so there could be some movement there soon.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 5:07 pmNot interviewing people at the moment. Yeah exactly, PATH is slow but if you live near World Trade it's not bad at all. As an aside, what in the world is "MFH?"LBJ's Hair wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:57 pmNewark sucks, but you can just live in Manhattan and take the PATH. You can also live in Jersey City, which is more affordable and a nice area. Also can live in midtown Manhattan and catch the Herald Square PATH, though you may have to transfer once to get to Newark (not sure).ayylmao wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:15 amYeah exactly, PATH is slow but if you live near World Trade it's not bad at all. Yeah I'd recommend JC as well; probably even more than Manhattan on a clerk's salary. Plus the commute is even shorter than from NYC. You'd have to transfer in JC if you take PATH from Herald Sq. Would not recommend.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:43 amYou can also live in Jersey City, which is more affordable and a nice area. Re: Let's Talk 3rd Circuit!
Current Newark clerk here. Commute isn't bad if you plan out where to live in NYC or just on the other side in Jersey. Lots of options between PATH/NJ transit or even driving. Courthouse is cool. Much less formal than what I understand EDNY / SDNY to be like. Also, the judges tend to get elevated from magistrates on up, which is great IMHO.ayylmao wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:26 amYeah I'd recommend JC as well; probably even more than Manhattan on a clerk's salary. Thanks for the info on Newark. Was worried.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 6:23 pmCurrent Newark clerk here. Bumping my post at the top of the page: what about Judge Fuentes? There is very little about him, or working for him, in this thread. Almanac of Federal Judiciary info tells me very little.

I've only heard good things about Fuentes as a boss/person. But I didn't clerk on the third. Somebody who did might have better info.Eynon wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 1:31 pmThanks for the info on Newark. Was worried.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 6:23 pmCurrent Newark clerk here. Any knowledge on Restrepo's hiring practices? Brief look at Linkedin suggests former clerks primarily are from Temple/other local schools.

He is said to prefer public interest-career track applicants, though I don't know how much of a factor that is.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 4:04 pmAny knowledge on Restrepo's hiring practices? Brief look at Linkedin suggests former clerks primarily are from Temple/other local schools.

He does prefer applicants with a demonstrated commitment to social justice, particularly in the realm of criminal justice reform and public defense, and he prefers applicants with work experience. He has definitely hired from elite firms and schools, as well. I also believe Philly connections are a plus.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 8:08 pmGotcha, thanks.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 4:30 pmHe is said to prefer public interest-career track applicants, though I don't know how much of a factor that is.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 4:04 pmAny knowledge on Restrepo's hiring practices? For the judges that require applications to be mailed...does anyone know if mail is even being processed right now at the courthouses? Any sense of timing for these judges would be appreciated.

Only have direct knowledge of Newark courthouse, but mail is being processed and delivered. The main CA3 courthouse in Philly was only fully closed for a full days, so I’m sure mail is being delivered as normal there too.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 12:33 pmFor the judges that require applications to be mailed...does anyone know if mail is even being processed right now at the courthouses? Re: Let's Talk 3rd Circuit!
Anyone hear anything from Shwartz recently? I know she sent out some interview requests last week but haven't seen any posts since then and, based on past years threads, it seems like she interviews a lot of candidates.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
