Anyone know which COA judges are “off plan” judges (in the sense that they don’t reliably post openings on Oscar)?
My Newark-based judge just looked at apps as they came in, all year.

Maybe this is a long-shot question, but does anyone have information on the hiring practices of Judge Edward G. Smith on E.D. Pa.? He's the only federal judge in my hometown and apparently will be posting to OSCAR in early January (info from his chambers), so I'd like to really tailor an application for him if I have a shot. I'm around Top 30% at a CCN school with law review (bad 1L year though), published, currently do public-interest litigation. Grew up in the Lehigh Valley, though didn't do undergrad there (and obviously not law school), if that matters.

Not sure about the PA seats since there are so many possibilities, but I would bet good money on Tamika Montgomery-Reeves of SCODE getting the nomination for Ambro's DE seat. At 40 she's very young (though not as young as some of Trump's nominees) and she's the first Black justice on that bench (and with McKee taking senior status, 3d Cir. would otherwise have no Black judges).

Also relevant: as Matthew Stiegler has repeatedly pointed out, CA3 has a massive gender imbalance. It's fair to assume that the PA/DE nominees will probably be women.

(I would be very surprised if Dan Anders wasn't one of the EDPA nominees, although despite his youthful looks, he's over 50 and thus a bit on the older side for the Biden administration.)

I'm very curious about Judge Greenaway. He turns 65 in November 2022. He could conceivably indicate his intent now to take senior status, so that a replacement is confirmed in time; that happened a few times under Trump. But the DNJ nominees have been so underwhelming that I do not have high hopes for any CA3 NJ pick under Booker and Menendez.

Agreed. There are lots of great candidates, too. Elise Boddie would be towards the top of my list. The Rutgers Dean, Kimberly Mutcherson would be great. She's a bit older than I think the admin is looking for but Jeanne LoCicero at the ACLU would be good.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
