With my luck, I'll go 0/2 or receive an offer while I'm on my flight to interview in WV. :P

Best of luck everyone. I just feel lucky to have had interviews.
OP here with an update. I accepted an offer from the NDTX!! My stats...

School range: Top 50 law school (public)
Rank: Top third (but was unranked when I applied to clerkships)
LR?: Yes, but not e-board
Published?: Nope
Recs: Glowing (2 professors, 1 employer)
2L/3L/Alum?: 2L
Where applying?: Focused on US District Courts in flyover states. Sent out 20 applications in April.
Any other factors: Won a national moot court competition last fall. I'm also on a full scholarship to law school (not GI Bill).
1L Summer - USAO
2L Summer - (split) The Hill in DC drafting legislation for the House and then DOJ SLIP
Also, prior to law school, I was a Navy tactical jet aviator (and I'm female, so there are only a handful of us). I'm still in the Reserves as an Intelligence Officer, so I have been drilling with the Navy all through law school.

Congrats!!! Anything you think helped you get it?
Thanks! The judge I interned for as a 1L is really good friends with the judge. He called on my behalf, so I am sure that helped a ton.

At this point in the year, are some judges still moving slow or are most judges with remaining slots moving pretty quickly?

I ask because I applied to ~90 clerkships (mix of district court and magistrate judges) in some major markets but predominantly flyover country. None of these positions have been marked as filled yet. So far crickets for me, though I don't have competitive stats for district court. Was hoping I was positioned okay for magistrate judges. Today, a JA e-mailed me a confirmation that my application was received and said the judge won't be reviewing apps and scheduling interviews until the end of September. Is this timeline pretty typical for now or no? Not sure if I should interpret the silence right now as judges not interested or as judges haven't even looked at apps yet.

This is the first year of the changed application dates, so the timeline comparison will be difficult. Last year, Labor Day was the first official day judges could review 3L applications. I bet there are several judges out there that will follow that time frame even though the OSCAR plan has changed.

Just received a late interview for a federal district in the southwest. I'd actually given up. Still not going to hold my breath though. There's gotta be 20 or 30 other applicants, minimum.

What makes you think the judge is interviewing that many candidates? The judge I'm working for/worked for only interviewed about 5 people.

I'm just a massive pessimist? I do know he is interviewing at least 3 of my classmates from my law school here though (and the schedule indicates up to 8 people could be interviewed at my school). So I just sort of assume that people from other law schools (i.e. T14ers) are also competing with me, even in the shithole town the judge has been appointed to.

Interesting to hear that judges interview so few. It would be nice if my judge was only interviewing 8-10 candidates.... that would give me a much better chance. I'll be honest, I'd shoot my mom in the kneecap to get a clerkship.

Can we sticky this at the top of the page as an appropriate use of anon?

It's okay to be pessimistic but ruminating about your chances isn't useful. They are what they are, you just have to do the best you can during the interview.

And you can't know for sure the judge is interviewing people from other schools. Maybe the judge likes your school a lot. I heard of a judge who only interviewed people from 2 schools, Harvard and Columbia. That judge wouldn't even look at apps from any other schools, even Yale, Stanford, NYU, Chicago. The point is that you're just guessing but more importantly that guessing is pointless.

In any case, good luck!

Typically doesn't make sense for a judge to interview tons of applicants per spot. I'd say 5 applicants per spot is PROBABLY about right. 8-10 is pushing it, 20+ is like wtf. Mine selected like 3-4 to interview to begin with, and then interviewed more only if he didn't sufficiently like enough of the first 3-4 to fill up the available clerkship slots.

But I agree that guessing is generally pointless.

OP anon on this - it turns out to be about 10-12 interviewees. Mostly in district, but some out of district.

Is anyone else still waiting to hear back from judges for interviews or rejections? It seems that some judges have not even started interviews yet and are still accepting applications. Is this common? Do most judges have the process wrapped up by January?

I had an interview 2 months ago that I still have not heard back from. I'm assuming at this point I am not getting an offer, but I still don't know why I haven't received a rejection letter yet.

A lot of judges don't send out rejection letters. They just never respond.

Its my understanding that if the position is filled, then they will at least say so on Oscar. Or is that incorrect?

Not all judges keep their OSCAR page up to date.

If a judge is newly appointed, how long does it take chambers to get up and running once confirmation is official?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
