Under what conditions would you consider dropping out?

I am referring to ACADEMIC conditions, rather than if you find out you hate law school or have a medical emergency and need longterm treatment, etc.

I think this something we should all consider BEFORE we get into massive debt and fall prey to the sunk cost fallacy.

I know some of this may depend on scholarship stipulations or what school you end up going to. I know if I went to Yale, I'd stick it out no matter what. BUT I want you to answer with your current feelings on the school you plan on attending now.

I'm interested in hearing your reasoning for your poll answer too!

:)

Never. I'm determined to be miserable.

Probably bottom 10%. Getting a job from my school is more about hustle than grades.

Thinking about this makes me very unhappy.

Well I don't have a school I'm planning to attend just yet, but if I were below median at any of them, I'd be very concerned.

If i can't make median my 1L...then better to drop out and cut my losses. None of the schools i'm willing to go to will offer me viable job prospects if I'm lower than median..

Depends on the school but I would think if I'm on the bottom of a Tier 3 or Tier 4 school, job prospects would be slim to none... i'd probably drop out at that point.

Never. But I'm looking at a very manageable debt load and if I completely fail at finding at a law job I can always go back to my former career.

Yeah, LS is kinda nice in that all the pressure, in general, is front-loaded. 1L grades play a big role in your 2L SA gig, which will in turn probably be what you do after graduation. If 1L goes wonderfully, well then yay. If it goes badly, it should (theoretically) be easy to recognize that fact and abandon ship before financing two more years of school.

Unless you're on a full ride or something, in which case I would just stick with it no matter what because why the hell not.

I have a stip at top 40%, so falling below that would have made me seriously consider it.

+1

Except..any school that would give me a true full-ride (that covers living expenses) probably wouldn't give me a job even if I was at the top of my class :(

Such is the Sophie's Choice of being a splitter:
1. Schools with good job placement make us incur massive debt
2. Schools that will give us full-rides have shitty job placement

Seriously this is a depressing thought that I haven't entertained yet.

I would probably say if I didn't make median than I'd cut my losses early.

It's pretty much impossible for me to fall below that at this point

Bottom of the barrel grades (maybe bottom 15-20%?) I'm probably dropping out. But I'd try to assess my chances for getting a 2L SA while in school using whatever information OCS gives out, something I can't do right now as a 0L. Going at sticker or near sticker so LS doesn't make sense without big law (and I'm not interested in anything else anyways)

Law school is a risk, guys. You splitters just have to think about how debt adverse you are.

IMO, taking out +$150k for school is just crazy, so I went local and cheap. I know a ton of peeps who went the other route.

You'll make it work. Just quit TLS your first year lol

Is this because you dislike law or because you feel your grades 1st semester ruined your chances at getting a good job?
