Just hearing about an NYC reception for admitted students at the end of February, thought it made the most sense to discuss here. Who's going? Thoughts on dress code? What ever else comes up.

Yeah, slightly disappointed, but your good company. Atleast I know that there will definitely be one other admitted student there. Hope this thing isn't weird.ks2499 wrote:Welp, if it's just the two of us, I guess we'll figure out who each other are easily enough. I'm slightly tempted to back out, but it's a block from my office, so that would just be way too lazy.Manhattanman wrote:Anyone else going to the NYC reception tomorrow?

How do people usually go about getting housing/roommates as a 0L? Is there a forum or Facebook thing for this?sumner wrote:hey I'm a 1L, let me know if you have any questions and congrats on being admitted to BU!

It's kind of a struggle I'm not going to lie. If you want to be in actual BU rental property (grad housing) then you should contact the office of rental property management as soon as you decide on going to BU. (http://www.bu.edu/orpm). Usually upperclassmen and 1Ls who are looking for roommates will post on the official admitted students Facebook page. A lot of people in my class did that and live with a bunch of other law students.szb5058 wrote:

Also a 1L here at BUszb5058 wrote:How do people usually go about getting housing/roommates as a 0L? Is there a forum or Facebook thing for this?sumner wrote:hey I'm a 1L, let me know if you have any questions and congrats on being admitted to BU!
I highly suggest BU's Off-Campus Housing site. You can find roommates and places for rent there as well as post looking for roommates. BU Law also provides a roommate site, I believe. I found my (amazing) apartment and some other BU grad students to live with on the off campus housing site.
As sumner said, a lot of people post on the facebook groups as well, which is a terrific way to find roommates and apartments. 2Ls and 3Ls often like having a 1L (or a few) to live in the apartment. (There are actually some apartments that are just constantly BU law students, usually with some of each year.)
I would not suggest going through BU's official, simply because it is so expensive and highly based on luck. Some people love their BU housing, but I know others who are very unhappy.
You can also use realtors, which is how I think most find apartments. Keep in mind that Boston is overrun with realtors who all kind of do their own thing (and not always listening to you). You'll also usually be responsible for the realtor fee if you use one.
Overall, I'd highly suggest the BU Off Campus Housing site and the facebook group (people are already posting in the class of 2015 group with apartments and rooms).
A note about moving in: if you can manage to move in a few days before September 1st (most landlords are good with this and people already here usually try to move a few days early, so it typically works out - but remember to start your utilities for a day before you actually move in so you have electricity and such), you will be vastly relieved when you see the craziness of Allston Christmas (aka Sept. 1 move). Plus, orientation is usually around then, so it'd probably be nice to be settled in a little before orientation.
