I sent an e-mail last Friday, got a response on Monday asking me to fill out a form and heard back yesterday. They don't reimburse until after but you can submit the documentation before.slienthill wrote:Has anyone heard from the admissions office about the travel subsidy? I've submitted my proof of purchase via email several days ago and haven't received any news from them so far. Does anyone have the similar experience?

Re: Columbia Class of 2016
Hey all, I sent in my and my parents tax returns by email about two weeks ago (after the March 1st deadline), but everything else was in before. Fin aid office confirmed receipt of my questionnaire and needaccess in february, but I haven't heard anything about my file being complete. I already emailed them several times about other issues and I don't want to be a nuisance but I would like to confirm that my finaid materials were received and my file completed..

Call them. I called and they confirmed immediately that they had all of my materials.
I emailed them once, a long while back and didn't get a response. Stick to calling if you can.

"The first batch of financial aid will go out the first week of April." I have no idea if I'm in that batch, though.az21833 wrote:have you heard anything besides being complete? its late march now...J90 wrote:Call them. I called and they confirmed immediately that they had all of my materials.

Re: Columbia Class of 2016
Don't worry about missing it. CLS is most likely where I'll end up, and I am actually excited about it as a school, but they had a pretty lackluster ASW in March. Speakers were not engaging, tours were disorganized. Food was pretty decent, I guess.tonton wrote:Checking in. Would love to go visit on the 3rd and 4th, but not in the states. so if anyone does go, please feel free to go on a diatribe about how bad the food was, or maybe gush about how great it was! Who the other c/o 2016 students were, if you liked them..what was said about need based aid limits during the fin aid Q&A, if 1Ls actually get the classes they are really interested in the bid for classes outside the curriculum. I would gobble up information about how even the doors to the main entrance of the law faculty work haha anything!
Re: need-based aid: they claim to only give out need-based, aside from the Hamilton, but I heard a LOT of rumors that they mask some merit in with that. Didn't sound like there were any limits but I presume there's a borrowing expectation. They do set everything for grants before first year, but you can change loan amounts at any time. Most of the finaid Q&A was stuff you could find out on the website.
As for classes - I purposefully went to the most boring class I could (Property) and it was really not that bad. A lot of students were on gchat the entire class, which I like to think now I won't do once I get there, but given that I'm posting on TLS while at work, I probably shouldn't judge them for that. Went to a couple other classes and they were a lot better - people seemed genuinely interested and the teachers were good at socratic method, seemed interested in teaching rather than burdened by it, etc.
Building is nice, if you like new buildings. Double doors, good weight to them.

So, is anyone actually going to read the THREE cases for the 'mock class' during next week? I already have more homework than I can actually get done in my real classes that I'm receiving a grade in

Not sure how far you're traveling, but if you're going to be on a bus or plane for an hour or more you can easily whip through the readings. (at least for the stuff I was assigned for the March ASW)SpatulasRcool13 wrote:So, is anyone actually going to read the THREE cases for the 'mock class' during next week? They're super quick and the whole mock class is more of a lighthearted discussion than anything. In mine, nobody got cold-called, the professor (Dubler, if you get her) was phenomenal, and nobody will care how you respond or even if you respond. If you really do want to read them, the girl next to me powered through all three in about 10 minutes as the prof. was introducing herself.SpatulasRcool13 wrote:So, is anyone actually going to read the THREE cases for the 'mock class' during next week? It's designed to throw a couple questions at you and introduce you to a legal dilemma or two, not stress you out in the slightest.

Did anyone hear any word from the Financial Aid Office regarding the financial aid package?

How is the ASW going? I got in too late to take time off, but I wanted to be there.

I had a great time at the first, assuming the schedules are dead similar! The April one should be wrapping up right about now...banjo wrote:How is the ASW going? I got in too late to take time off, but I wanted to be there.

It has been okay thus far. The students helping out at ASW have been very nice. The people I have met seem really cool. Me---> Totally exhausted after today's events.banjo wrote:How is the ASW going? I got in too late to take time off, but I wanted to be there.

hey az, so the consensus from what I've seen is that you cannot receive a named scholarship @ CLS unless its with admission. You can get a "Butler"-esque grant award however -- $25K or $30K -- but not the "Butler" itself. With your HS acceptances, I'm sure you could get the money, but they really reserve the prestige names for those 175+.az21833 wrote:anybody know whether you can negotiate into a butler? has anybody gotten one besides with admit letter? say you were in at HYS and have a rubenstein and vanderbilt (i abs. do not)
Have you PM'd Pacifica? I know he came to Columbia with yale, stanford, and harvard acceptances, and was shot down earlier this year.
