Hey guys, I'm 95% sure I'll be in Lexington come the fall. Anyone else?

Also when are you going to look at housing?

Also like 95% sure I'll be at W&L.

Probably going to look after ASW at the end of March. Likely living by myself with my dog though, so that may complicate the process a bit.

Have either you guys seen apartments that are furnished? I see a lot of houses available but they most of them are unfurnished. I don't really feel like buying new furniture and moving it all in.

Thanks, yeah I did some more looking and found some more places that are furnished. Trying to figure out how much debt I'll incur upon graduating. They say that living expenses are going to run around $16K. I'd like to think that living in Lexington for 9 months would cost less but I don't know. I'm sure they overestimated on living expenses just to ensure that the loans people took out would pay for everything.

Hey guys! Congrats on your acceptance and decision to attend W&L. I am a current 1L looking for a roommate for next year. I was planning to live alone, but then recently decided I want a roommate to save money. Unfortunately that means that most of my classmates have already paired off, so I'm kind of screwed.

I haven't signed a lease for next year yet, but I am looking at some places that would be in the $400-$500/month range (each, plus utilities most likely). Looking for one roommate, preferably female. PM me if you'd be interested, or even if you just want to talk to someone who goes here (I know I had approximately one million questions at this point last year).

I can't wait until next week. I'm sure ASW will seal the deal for me. :D

Hey everyone, I was down in Lexington this weekend finding a place to live, and wanted to the contact info for a property manager that I highly recommend. Warren Miller was really helpful, and has a really nice, gigantic apartment for two students above Barb's Bakery on West Nelson Street downtown. The apartment is really big, clean (renovated in 2006), has a skylight, and goes for $1250/month. Unfortunately, it was out of my price range to rent alone, but it would be good for two people.

He has other properties around Lexington, and was really friendly and prompt.
His contact info is: WMiller@beckmill.com, (540) 463-6200

I know I'll be attending, but the Financial Aid packet scared me a bit. I didn't think I was debt-averse until I received that fun little packet in the mail today ...

Hey,
I've pretty much decided on W&L for the Fall as well. I thought it would be a good idea to have a roommate for the first year to be able to get plugged into a social circle and have someone else to help study etc. I'm 22 years old and male from Texas/NC. Anybody else looking for roommates? I'd ideally like to find a place close to campus but I'm betting everyone else does too.

Locked up my apartment today. Above Alvin-Dennis, the dank men's shop downtown. So excited to return to be a Double General. If anyone has a question about life in Lex of W&L that y'all didn't get answered at ASW, I'd be glad to answer them...

Street noise in downtown Lex? Haha. No way; you should be great. Maybe you'll hear the occasional drunk freshman guy yell as he stumbles back from the frat houses after a rush party or, given your location, the townies may be particularly rowdy down at the Palms one night, but in general, downtown Lex is super quiet at night...

another question..i heard from someone while there for asw that the bookstore allows you to get everything you need (textbooks and such) even without money and just charges it to your student account..is that correct? if so that will be a great benefit to not have to worry about getting books before coming to the school

Oh for sure. I you can make an IOU type deal and they will bill you later. The Honor System at work, they know you'll be good for it so they are not too concerned about when they get their money from you.

The more I learn about W&L, the more I get the impression that I'm entering a sort of Utopian society.

same here!..the bookstore deal works out really well since we won't get the funds from the school until at least a week after classes begin. From the financial aid site it said this

Refunds for Law Students:
Approximate dates for credit balance checks are 09/06/12 and 01/24/13. Credit balance checks are issued automatically on those dates beginning at 8:30am

the only thing that i am having a problem with coming to w&l is that my apartment is on the third floor of a building, with no elevator..so i have to get into the physical shape to make that hike everyday..lol.and im also on the hunt for furniture.but other than that I'm looking forward to everything

Probably be sending in my deposit IF this weekend goes well (although that actually isn't a big if).

I know housing is affordable, but is it plentiful (i.e. a number of places to choose from still). I know down @ VT if you didn't get your place by a certain point you were kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel. I wouldn't mind roommates, but I'd also almost like to live more in a house/townhouse in Lex (really want a yard for my pooch, and so I can grill) and wasn't sure what the prospects were on this front.

Anyone out there with some idea about this?

Got a packet of letters from alum in the snail mail today, mostly from lawyers in the corporate/big law areas, wish they would have included a few letters from public interest lawyers..o well..it does show though that alums are scattered all over the place

64 out of the 129 students in the graduating class of 2011 participated in the graduate fellowship program. Seems like they're really utilizing the program.

Going to ASW tomorrow, any suggestions?

Don't go to the financial aid presentation.unless u want to ask questions about wory study...I went and it was boring..pretty simple, you either take out loans or you don't..I think taking the time to speak with current students is better use of time

Also I saw the fellowship numbers and it really looks like such a program helps..its comforting to know that the school will help fund efforts to seek other employment..when I read the w&m forum though they always seem to degrade this program..o well

Houses go unrented all year long in lexington b/c it's so plentiful. No one should feel rushed to find place to live in lexington, plenty of people find killer houses in late july august.
