Notre Dame 2015

Didn't see one of these threads, so I thought I'd go ahead and create one for those of us admitted and considering ND (or perhaps already sold on it) to discuss the school, South Bend, football, and anything else relevant.

If anyone has any helpful links, or if any current students want to contribute, feel free!

I was wondering why I haven't seen one yet, I thought it was because ND doesn't have enough admitted students after they waitlisted all the 169+/3.5+students. ND's LSN graph for this cycle is as perplexing as it is patently shocking.

Anyway, hopefully we'll be seeing more and more people in this thread.

Contemplating ending up here. Also puzzled by ND's waitlist-heavy strategy.

Did you WLed people write Why NDs? It seems to be that if there is no Why ND and no obvious reason why you would find ND to be a fit, WL happen a lot.

BTW, I'm a 2L and a double domer, feel free to ask any questions you might have.

ndirish, could you speak a bit about the experience your class has had with OCI this year? I've seen some comments you and others have made in various places, but I thought that, if you didn't mind, it might be good to get some insight collected here for new students.

Also, how is the living situation on campus? Are there parietals or any notable rules like in the UG residence halls?

CDO is not very transparent in their statistics, but based off of what I know, I would guess that between 30 and 40 people managed to get SAs (probably closer to 40). Not all of these were through OCI (actually, quite a few of the people I know that got firm jobs had the most success at firms in their hometowns, in places that ND doesn't traditionally place in, but where there are no T14 or even T30 schools around). I know of several other people who have summer jobs at solid DAs offices, mostly around where they are from, and some others with judicial internships. You probably saw this, but I went through the OCI/mailing season and got 9 callbacks basically all over the midwest and northeast but ended up with no offers, but I do have a paid government job for next summer.

In sum, if you get over a 3.5 (this number might be too low with the new curve), you have a good chance to get a SA. If you don't, it's an uphill battle.

As far as living, I have honestly never been in FOG, and I don't know whether the parietals are the same as the UG residence halls. I don't think they are. There are several cheap places to live just around campus (Clover Village, Clover Ridge, Castle Point, Dublin Village, etc...) if you don't want to deal with whatever there is, however.

checking in. Undecided yet, but as of right now Notre Dame is my #1. I just have to wait and see how the rest of the cycle plays out.

Checking in!

Thanks OP for making this thread. I think I missed it because I was specifically looking for "Notre Dame".

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't want people to get this thread mixed up with the applicants thread (called "Notre Dame Class of 2015").

Checking in as well...I searched for this thread for a while before I found it, odd that it didn't come up. I'm SO excited about NDLS and am trying to arrange a visit. Does anyone know where I find the password to the admitted students section? Is it in the packet of materials they sent with my acceptance and I'm just not seeing it?

Something else I'm wondering--how do people feel about living in South Bend? What's it like? I'm use to living in a big city and scared about moving to a small town but like everything else about the school.

So, I absolutely LOVED my visit. Everyone was so nice and genuine, and I don't think you can really compete with the facilities. I really loved how frankly everyone answered my questions. They really weren't trying to oversell the school- just make sure that I was making the right decision for me. It's going to be pretty hard to compete with that.

Checking in...can't wait to be at Notre Dame in the fall, no doubt the best law school environment that I have visited.

Awesome to hear that people have had such great visits lately!

Is anyone planning on going to either ASD? If so, which one? I'm probably going to be at the March one.

I'm in favor of this. I'm not 100% sure I'll be in South Bend next year, but it's looking more and more likely daily.

So as far as South Bend goes...if somehow you missed this elsewhere...it is a total shit hole. That being said...Notre Dame campus is gorgeous and they are doing more and more to buy up and clean up the surrounding areas the biggest being the Eddy Street Commons which has been built over the past few years. Mishawaka, the area north of campus, is nice and that's where you will find most of the grocery stores, food chains, and the mall (which has also added some nicer stores). You aren't going to find any super classy upscale anythings not restaurants, bars, or stores and there are definitely areas you will want to avoid and you probably shouldn't ever be anywhere off campus completely alone in the dark. Also, the weather is absurd so I would seriously recommend living as close to campus as possible. Having to shovel out a car and drive through the snow is a pain and it's not uncommon to have sun, snow, sleet, rain, wind all in the same day. If you don't do well with serious lack of sunshine for long periods of time ND is going to be very rough.

On the positive note, ND itself is absolutely gorgeous and some of the more developed areas are top notch. Obviously I love it like my second home just want everyone to be aware that it doesn't always look like the brochure pictures but still totally worth it.

Got my admit packet today, love that my over enthusiastic undergrad buddy was on the committee that put together the monstrous but very helpful info packet.
