I do know that the bottom 10% at Northwestern get B-'s.

But it's all the same difference. A B- at Northwestern, a B/B-/C or anything lower (depending on the curve) at anything outside of the ~T14.

To M51 I don't think that doing well in the 2nd and 3rd year really counts as the same thing. In the old economy everyone stopped being competitive come 2nd year, with transfer being a possible exception if they feel they have something to prove. Don't know if this is true now but there wouldn't be info yet anecdotal or otherwise.
