Also, do you think the difference between HS and college is greater or less than the difference between college and law school?

Thanks
I know I'm in the minority on this one, and I'm sure this will read as a flame to some, but in terms of level of difficulty for me:

High school > college > law school

In high school, I had virtually every class each day, and there was usually an assignment to hand in for every class each day. It essentially ate up all of my time. College was slightly less difficult, because each class only met a few times per week and the assignments were less frequent. However, I studied computer engineering/science and there was still a lot of work. Law school is just a bunch of reading. None of the concepts are especially hard to grasp, either.

I'm also slightly older than most law students, and I've had some pretty intense life experience so I'm sure my perspective is skewed.

In high school, I was focussed on sports and getting laid. But I didn't have as much freedom. In college, I was focussed on partying and getting laid. And I had the freedom to get laid all I wanted. So I had to discipline myself, which was a chore because you are on your own schedule. It also made things easier. I took the courses I wanted to take.

In law school, I am going to focus on getting laid for the first few weeks. Whomever I study with in my first month is getting laid (females only). I have to get that out of the way, so I can do my work and avoid the drama. No girlfriends. I'll get laid from August to September, then take a break until Christmas, come home, get laid some more, take a break until spring break in Cancun, get laid for a week, take another break until summer...then get laid with my summer associate friends all summer.

That should work out. It won't ruin your life if you're honest and tell the chick she's not your girl.
I can't tell if this post is serious or not. If so, guys who get a ton of ass don't bring it up 15 times in 1 post.

Who said anything about a "ton of ass"? lol. I mentioned "chick" as in singular. If I get laid four seasons a year, I don't need 100 chicks, just 5-8. That's not a ton of ass! What do you think I am, a man-ho? lol. But in all seriousness, it was just tongue-in-cheek. Still, let's be real...we all want to get laid, ALOT! Even adcoms want to get laid.

Sectioning off times of the year to get laid = probably not going to get laid and creepy

As for the actual topic, the biggest difference between UG and law school is the accountability for the day to day work.

Beginning note: I was a business UG (so most of this is probably a lot different for a BA or engineering UG).

The biggest differences- that you can't just sit down and read the book and get everything you need for the exam like you could in UG. In a lot of ways the casebooks/assigned readings are almost completely a waste of time after your 1st semester (you obviously need to learn how to read a case at some point). Also you have to spend a good amount of time writing something that you will be able to study for the final exam with (i.e. "outlining") because the casebook will not help you there (unlike in UG where everything was there in descriptive text and you could simply read a 1/3 of the assigned book the night before the exam and ace it).

Another difference- college you go in thinking it is going to be a joke, that you will just party your ass off, and that you won't need to do any work and still pass all your classes (kinda like high school). Then after your first semester delivers a swift kick in the balls you realize that you need to go to read, go to class, and sometimes even take notes. Law school is the exact opposite. Everyone tries to scare the hell out of you by telling you how hard it is, how much work it will be, that everyone is smart, and that it will be difficult to get good grades. So you study your ass off your 1st semester only to realize that law school is really just a big joke and it all comes down to one exam that is really not even that hard. Then you cut the amount of work you do the 2nd semester to about 10% of what you did the first semester and only really study during the finals period and then your grades go up and you do even better then your 1st semester. So then summer and/or 2L year you start to get really lazy and stop doing most of the assigned readings for a lot of your classes and your grades remain static or get better. At least that was my experience so far (and trust me, I am probably one of the dumbest and/or laziest people at my current school).

No one really gives you much of a context for what you are doing on a day to day basis. Nobody tells you, your classmates don't know, and you have to reinvent the wheel more or less until the exam period. I can assure you all that my study methods first semester were completely inefficient. Arrow (I think) wrote a good article, but study habits should also be tailored to what works for you.

With that being said, knowing the law is easy. Applying the law is a bit harder, but not that rough. The hard part is figuring out how to differentiate yourself amongst classmates who have essentially been filtered into a group that is more or less as talented as you are, on a test where you have one shot to do it and the professors don't give much of an indication as to how they grade. I still have no idea how to do this.

We will see where my grades put me, I'll review my exams, try to think up some improvements, and then I'll begin reinventing the wheel yet again this semester.

Two big differences I've noticed:

1. It's an even playing field. There will be a few standout "smart" people, but good luck trying to find the "dumb" students. In undergrad you could always count on there being a handful of slackers and not-so-brilliant people to boost your grade. Everyone you encounter in law school will be that kid in undergrad who was one of the smarter people in class. This is why grades can be so powerful in law school - not only do they affect your future, but nobody is accustomed to getting crappy grades.

2. You can completely understand the reading for class and have no idea what's going on during the class discussion.

I think this question also largely depends on your goals:

1) If you want to be top of our class, they're wayyyy different. Way more work in law school.

2) If you're cool with median or so, they're moderately different. More work in law school, but it would really depend on what you did in ugrad to make a comparison.

In short, more work, but it really depends on how dedicated you are to law school. One exam at the end of the semester, so theoretically you could just blow off everything, get a canned outline, and study for a few weeks before the test. Conversely, you could spend the whole semester studying 15 hours a day. Just depends.

Idk, man. Something happens when girls stop playing at being sorority chicks, and start to become women. Women who were clearly less attractive in school now have some sort of swagger, and that makes up for being average in terms of looks. Also, all that studying apparently does something to the booty. Unfortunately, studying also creates quite a few booty-do situations. Still, there's something to be said for a woman dressed up all professional like, that shit is hot.

@mac.empress: I'll gladly concede that battle.

The biggest difference for me, is not being able to accurately determine who is competition and going to do well. There are girls who appear to be airhead-debutants, with every joke going over their heads on law review. Guys who are a walking parody of a bad MTV reality show, who get near straight A's and hard working, articulate students from top universities almost failing out. Law schools a surreal experience and you will quickly learn not to easily judge your fellow classmates as you might have in undergrad.
