Change of heart in 3L?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Apr 05, 2022 12:46 am

What's the best way to deal with a minor pivot during 3L? (from one type of transactional to another)

I have a great SA lined up, but I took some super interesting 2L classes that shifted my focus from pure corporate to soft IP (still transactional), and now I'm worried that I might be happier in a slightly different practice area. My firm doesn't offer much in this new area of interest (it mostly does public companies work, M&A etc).

Should I just wait and see? Start planning for a change? Somewhere in between?

How certain are you that you really want to do this? You haven't experienced any real transactional work yet. Do the summer, if you feel like you won't enjoy it then do 3L recruiting.

Wait and see. Practice is way different, plus a bird in hand.
