Just started con law and I am already starting to hate life

before starting con law, I was actually excited because I like to know my constitutional rights. I want to know if I give someone the middle finger, what can happen to me.

But no, it's not about that at all. it's US history and US government all over again. These are 2 subjects that I hate with a passion. I dont care what the congress does. I dont know who thomas jefferson was. I know it's ridiculous but I honestly don't know. I dont know anything about history or government. dont care, dont wanna know.

Is it normal that I cant understand what in the hell the teacher is saying? Will Emanuel save me?

Longest/worst cases by a mile, so biggest reading load. Inspires the most/worst class participation, too.

Con law will also be about that later. But the constitution is also about separation of powers. It's a fun class. Enjoy it.

Yeah, if you hate Con law this passionately...

depending on how your prof tests, a decent amount of what you have learned so far may not be tested. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

You're interested in knowing your rights, but you're not even remotely interested in how/why those rights are given such high priority? And not even the slightest bit curious about why a relatively short document has been able to hold a country together for over 200 years?

I appreciate disdain for academia as much as the next person (actually, that's not true at all), but it's not like these are uninteresting/unexciting topics...

With that attitude towards history, don't be surprised when you end up with no rights. And you'll deserve it.

Yes it is normal and no Emanuel won't save you.

ConLaw and related classes (Administrative law, Conflict of Laws, and Federal Courts) are more akin to learning a language rather than a typical black letter law class. Like language learning, this means they require more time and effort to comprehend and succeed. Many people prefer not to put in the effort, which is why ConLaw and related courses are often people's least favorite classes. Emanuel won't save you like it can in black letter classes, because it's impossible to boil a language into a list of rules.

You will either work harder, read more carefully, and attend office hours to ask questions, or you won't, and you'll continue to dislike it and get a B and that will be the end of your ConLaw experience.

Ahh.. the 1L realization that the vast majority of 1L con law class is NOT about First Amendment and Crim Pro (4th, 5th, 6th amendments)... Have fun!

Obviously professor dependent, but this is par for the course. Take a First Amendment or Crim Pro class if you are interested in "your rights."

Dear OP, you objectively suck. You would have sucked in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd eras of Commerce Clause interpretation as well.

On a related subject it pains me that people think of "rights" as opposed to "limits." The Bill of Rights are limitations on government authority, not rights vested in individuals.

Anyway, carry on...

Thomas Jefferson was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence and the third President of the United States.

Glad I could help.

First of all, why are you in law school? Secondly, Jefferson is amazing, and one of my favorite political thinkers. Third, are you a troll?

People who love Constitutional Law are pretty suspect to me. They tend to have odd priorities.

I love ConLaw
Sorry, you tend to have odd priorities. Meanwhile, students who love classes like Contracts and Remedies tend to have normal priorities.
