1L w/strong semester -- should my thinking change?

I understand that first semester grades comprise but one piece of the 1L pie, but I was fortunate to land a 4.0 this past semester and am curious if there's a way to parlay that into a more significant summer experience. What are some particularly promising markets in the SE? Atlanta, Charlotte, Richmond? How's Tampa?

To summarize:

1) I'm at a top-35 school in the Southeast.

2) I'd prefer to practice within the state but would consider a move, depending.

3) I don't know what I want to practice just yet, but likely transactional.

Thank you!

Congrats on the baller GPA. Keep that up and you'll be golden for 2L summer. But for 1L, it's much more about what interest you can generate in the market you're interested in. Mass mailing firms/jobs where you want to work will net better results because it's a numbers game. So figure out which market you're interested in, and get to work putting yourself out there.

If you think you want to do transactional work, I'd recommend Atlanta and Miami. I think those two markets would likely offer you the most options.

If you maintain GPA, consider transferring to Harvard (don't think yale takes many transfers and Stanford wouldn't make sense given the geographic interests). Also, throw an app to UVA and Duke. Obviously, transferring isn't a completely cut and dry decision - particularly if you have a scholly at current school.

Something to think about.

Thank you. Because I'm in my early 40s, transferring and paying sticker brings with it a great deal more fear even compared to the plight my Millennial colleagues face. The opportunity to graduate with very little debt strikes me as more significant than potential gains from a transfer. But maybe I'll have a different opinion about that next fall. ...

Yes, this totally changes the calculus.
