Any tips for doing well in crim? Dressler helped a lot. But do you guys have any tips for spotting and analyzing issues? For example, if a question asks for defenses to a crime, I realized that I should try to negate the actus reus and mens rea and then move on to see if there are any justification/excuse defenses.

You should read the exemptions and waivers on your own.

you're good to go. crim is very very mechanical but any argument is basically fair game.

You do well in crim the same way you do well in all of your classes: apply law to facts better than your peers. It's an illusion to think classes are any different.

Caveat: study for your professor. It seems particularly important to tailor your answers to the prof. If s/he loves discussion of MPC/common law distinction, run that route. If s/he pays particular attention to certain topics, take heed.
When you're done, realize you exercised minimal control over your grade and you probably would've ended up with the grade you received.

Don't overhype the distinction b/w act and mental state. It sounds fancy, but are really just elements of the crime.
