Top Law Schools

Hello everyone,
I'm in law school right now,but I realized I made a huge mistake attending law school. I'm at thomas cooley right now in my second semester and strongly considering dropping out. Ive come to realization that the law isn't my passion and I would hate to be in 200,000 plus debt for this. I honestly don't be believe staying in law school and finishing in all that debt is not worth it. I put a lot of thought into this and I know the debt is going to place limitations on my life such as getting married, buying house and living a comfortable lifestyle.I've talked to several friends about it and they understood where I was coming from. They shared with me they changed careers so many times but thats how they figured out what they wanted out of life. I'm not scared of withdrawing because deep down I know this is the right decision for me. I'm finishing out the semester while awaiting to hear back from job opportunities. I do have many options I can go down.

What is the best advice??

Drop out yesterday.

Assuming flame, but if not...did you seriously do ZERO research on Cooley before deciding to go $200,000 dollars in debt?

Even if you LOVED law you'd need to drop out of that scamming dumpster fire of a school.

I should have done more research. I fully understand law schools are about profits. But I feel awesome about this. It takes a lot of boldness because you don't want to be labeled as quitter , but at the same time you have to be smart enough to know its not a good investment.

Hey I'm a cooley second termer as well and I am cramming. I do the weekend program in Lansing. I think you should finish out this semester. Then maybe take the summer off to think and decide and check other opportunities and then once you decide and have had a breather you can go back or not and move on!

if you don't want to be a lawyer, drop out
if you do want to be a lawyer, drop out, retake the lsat, and go to school from which you can get an actual job

0L from the Cooley area (govt employee) - I know it's not my forum but I am so outraged by this I had to comment.

It is almost nearly impossible to rack up that sort of a debt at Cooley unless you got in the 130s or less on the LSAT and took out extra loans for living expenses every single year, but if you say that's what's happening, okay.

Secondly, you're never going to get a decent law job out of Cooley unless you're 'the chosen one'. I work with legal assistants (not even paralegals) who have Cooley J.Ds.

Get out as soon and as fast as you can. Last year, if possible. If you want to make a ton of money and remain the area, the only viable employment options are medical or construction. In this area, a JD from any law school less than a Top 20 isn't going to garner a job at more than $40k starting out.

Drop out, take some time to figure what your passion is. But if you know it isn't the law - do not stay at T. Cooley one second longer than you have to. In fact, don't even take your final exams this semester. As soon as you finish reading my comment, throw your books on the floor, pronounce 'peace out bitches' in as loud a voice as possible, and leave.

Yep. And I regret it. No one better to tell a current or prospective student from attending that school than someone who already went through it.
