When are we supposed to start studying for the bar?

Or, even better, when is the absolute LATEST that would be reasonable to start studying?
Is there time for a nice vacation from the end of April until bar study time? Or do people typically wrap up their school, move to wherever, and then start hitting the barbri?
I'm sure bar prep companies have a recommended time table, but: 1. I haven't bought one yet; and, 2. I hear they wildly over-estimate how much time you actually need

You could probably start mid-late June and pass. Depends how risk averse you are.

There is time for a vacation, especially at the end of April. Bar prep didnt start until mid/late May last year.

I started studying for the CA bar in mid-May. Went on a two-week vacation in mid-June, where I did minimal studying. Passed. So if you're diligent about putting in the hours when you do actually study, there definitely is time for a vacation

Bar prep courses are generally 9- to 10-week affairs. So they'll probably start either the 16th or the 23rd of May.

For most students graduating from law school, the bar studying period is from about the end of May till the test in late July. This is actually enough time, especially if you are able to study full time. But if you do find that you have a light 3L schedule, it could only help to take some time and start reviewing first year subjects during 3L, so that when you start your bar-review course you'll be ahead of the game.

Themis' schedule has me starting mid-May. Which means, I would have time for a vacation in April. I have been vegging out on the couch for the past week already, too poor to travel.
I plan on doing just a little bit those first few weeks in May so I feel productive. Could probably start hard in June and be fine.

You're "supposed" to start whenever you want. But I really recommend 2-3 months. I did a 2.5 week crash course and it was--without being too dramatic--the worst 2.5 weeks of my life. I barely scraped by--but it could just have easily gone the other way.
Do 2-3 months. Treat it like work (7-8 hours) with leisure time on the weekends and then ramp up studying the last two weeks. You do not want to know the horrors of waiting too late--and save yourself the burden of having to re-take.
