Does anyone know if performance on midterms is indicative of performance on finals, particularly at UVa?

Thanks in advance!

The only thing a midterm grade shows is how well the study process that you used works. The grade is not indicative of where you'll fall in the curve. You don't know how much (or little) others studied, or how much better people will get at studying before exams. If you did really well, you have some evidence that the way you studied was good for you. If you screwed the pooch, think about studying a different way for finals. That's about it.

Both MC and essay are good indicators that you're retaining the useful stuff but if it's essay, you can take it to the prof and get feedback on your writing - if it's persuasive enough, if you're spotting the issues and articulating it, if you're leaving points on the table, if you're writing too conclusive, etc.
