I went to my Career Services Office to do a little research on a firm. I wanted to figure out if their end-of-summer offer rate for 2014 was representative of past years. I asked one of the administrators where they keep the NALP Directories and was told they threw them out. Yep. Gone. Except for the 2011-12 edition. They decided to keep that one. Because hey, why not?

The law library, for it's part, only has up through c. 2005.

Does anyone have access to the 2012-13 or 2013-14 editions? If so, and you would be kindhearted enough to do snap a photo of one particular page in the directory and send it my way, please pm me.

Assuming you are in post offer phase, ask the firm?

To be totally honest, I kind of shat the bed on that by already accepting the offer.

As background, I like this firm a lot and I want to work there after graduation. I tried, unsuccessfully, on this forum and elsewhere to get ahold of those directories. I ended up just calling the hiring partner to ask why only 2 out of 4 of the 2014 SAs got an offer. I received a satisfying response and accepted the offer.

But the question started gnawing at me again. I realize its virtually moot at this point, but it'd really help to know.

I expected a boilerplate response about the offer being mine to lose, barring any unforeseen circumstances. What I got was a considerably more substantive response.

Listen, if you're gonna succeed in biglaw, you need to quit with the neuroses. Accept that some people were no-offered in the past. Know that you need to figure out how to do a good job. You already accepted. So getting some stats from a few years ago which may or may not be representative of the legal market today, how much pull your office has relative to the rest of the firm and which might reflect individual personalities much more so than targets is STILL going to be meaningless. You sound crazy. Seriously. Deal.

What are you going to do if you can't find an ABSOLUTELY PERFECT precedent for a deal or a similar motion for a case? Freak out? No. You gotta learn to calm yourself and move on. Same advice applies.

Also, PROLIFETIP: never, ever believe anything anyone in recruiting or selling you on a job offer tells you. This goes for any industry, not just law.
