Is it possible to join a frat and live in a frat house as a law student?

Has anyone done this? I'll be attending Berkeley next year as a transfer and I haven't nailed down my housing situation yet. Joining a frat appeals to me because it's something I've never experienced. What are your thoughts?

Frankly, this is probably the absolute worst thing you could do. Law school isn't the time to rush, get potentially hazed, and hit on coeds at mixers.

Why didn't you just join in UG?

You're telling me you want to rush with a bunch of 17/18 year olds?

My UG was a small private liberal arts school with no frats or sororities.

Well, I liked the movie Old School. Lol. I think it would be fun.

I mean, if you wanna and you can (check with the frats), go for it. But I personally wouldn't. 2L year is gonna be a lot of work. Couldn't imagine rushing.

Living at a frat house is definitely possible. They're probably not going to let you join now though, seems kinda weird.

Whaddaya mean? That sounds exactly like law school. Rush to get in law school, get hazed by the barrage of school, journals, and student orgs, and hit on fellow classmates and attorneys( ) at receptions.

Also, lol at "potentially hazed"... potentially...

Its 2L year at a T14? I don't see the problem. If you have a job go for it. It would have been far easier for me to pledge as a 2L, than my Freshmen year of college. And I go hazed plenty in college.

Haha fair enough - I stand corrected. But in all seriousness, listen to TSwift. You can literally never do wrong listening to TSwift.

Don't listen to the haters. Law school is a great time to forgo academics for the social life you missed out on in UG.

Some frats who can't fill their houses rent out rooms, although god knows why anyone would want to live there.

But no frats are just for undergrads, unless there's a "law frat" or something like that.

Idk man. Joining a frat at 23-24 seems really weird. I get the whole "it's an experience I missed out on" schtick but do you really want to do deal with obnoxious 18-20 year olds being loud all night and abusing the word "epic"? Also, it can go one of two ways with the coeds. 1) they'll think it's awesome that you're older/wiser than your frat bros and will fuck you for it or 2) they'll think you're some sort of rapey guy who was a loser in undergrad. I wouldn't do it (but I was in a frat in cahhhhhhllleedge and my little bro is going into it so that's weird) but w/e man its your world. YOLO!

this guy is 100% right. If anything just reap the benefits (i.e. provided booze/beer and partying) but don't go through the hassle of pledging and paying dues etc

Even that sounds super fucking creepy. Just buy booze for 18 year olds bro, WOOOOO! Seriously, let the undergrads do undergrad in peace OP. Stay the fuck away from them.

You see, being in a frat is kind of like being in a boat club. It's just better to know someone who's in it so you can join in on the shenanigans at no cost

In addition to seeming like a creep just trying to plow undergrads, your law school classmates will probably think you're a huge loser.
