I am taking evidence this semester as a pass/fail class. Of course, as a 3L, I would like to take this class without purchasing the casebook and learn all of the material from supplements. Suggestions?

I took it without a casebook. Actually I've taken all my p/f classes without the book. Never had a problem. Even took some of my grades classes without the book.

Do you have any suggestions for supplements? I figure I can learn the material and not drop 300 bucks on the newest edition that the prof assigned.

Unless your prof is really obsessed with cases, you should be fine just with a good annotated rules of evidence (presuming your class is only covering FRE). If you're assigned one for the class, you can get away with an older rule book as long as you don't go older than the most recent rules update.
Presuming your exam is going to standard issue-spotter, I used the E&E and law in a flash which did fine for exam prep.

Everything you need should be in the Evidence folder in this zip file:
